Are they 240's? (Non turbo)
Are they 740's? (Turbo)

A well maintained diesel Volvo in good shape with no rust can fetch $5000+
I just sold a 240 wagon I had converted to a turbo diesel for $4k, it still needs some things here and there dealt with but the buyer was happy to get his hands on a mechanically sound rust free turbo diesel Volvo wagon!

You can pick up a diesel Volvo on the cheap, but most likely it has been neglected and will need lots of $$ and time to get it back up.

I would also say 90% of the diesel cars will need an engine harness, but Dave Barton has those available for a very reasonable price.

My suggestion would be to get the body style you want to get (240/740) Sedan or wagon that is rust free, and do the repairs that are needed if mechanically inclined.

If you like the 240's but want it turbo diesel powered, it's relatively easy and fairly cheap to do ( I have converted at least 5 240's into turbo diesels).
