If the engine shuts down immediately with the key, you probably are not looking at a (dangerous) oil-ingestion-fueled runaway situation.

Turning up the max fuel adjustment too much can cause a high hanging idle and excess soot. You could try backing off the max fuel screw in 1/8 turn increments and see if that solves. Mark the current screw position as a benchmark first.

Can you find out what "adjustments" the P.O. did to the IP?

What caused the overheat and how long did it run overheated?

What nylon ring?
