The Rabbit one will not quite work, the VW style valvetrain on the 4cyl engines is slightly different from the Audi 5cyl and Volvo 6cyl engines (and the Audi 4cyl actually, as used in the Porsche 924 and some AMC products and quite different from the VW 4cyl, which is what's found in the Rabbit, Golf, Jetta.... and.... some models of the Audi 4000, which is an Audi that either has an Audi 5cyl engine, or a VW 4cyl! Confused yet?).

You'll need the type designed for the Audi engines. The diameter of the camshaft for the VW motor is smaller and the hook-type VW tool doesn't work on them. The Audi-type tool is shaped like a letter J. The VW version is more common but both are still widely available.

Here's what the two look like - upper J-shaped one is the Audi type which is correct for D24, the lower one is the VW 4cyl version which will NOT WORK. Note the difference in the radius of the hooked end between the two versions.
