You'll need the type designed for the Audi engines. The diameter of the camshaft for the VW motor is smaller and the hook-type VW tool doesn't work on them. The Audi-type tool is shaped like a letter J. The VW version is more common but both are still widely available.

Here's what the two look like - upper J-shaped one is the Audi type which is correct for D24, the lower one is the VW 4cyl version which will NOT WORK. Note the difference in the radius of the hooked end between the two versions.

Shoot. I wasn`t careful reading. So this 2574 Hazet isn`t going to work. $25 shipped isnt a tragedy though...It was listed as Hazet 2574 vw and audi valve depressor tool.
