There are differing opinions on whether locking compound is a help or hindrance on this crucial torque specification. I used an adapter and a 1/2" torque wrench set at the maximum value of 250 ft-lbs. I turned the screw about 30 more degrees with a shop made tool after the book value was reached. I applied synthetic engine oil to the harmonic balancer screw threads and the friction area on the head of the screw before installing it in the crankshaft. A 3/4" drive torque wrench wouldn't hurt since the value in the book is the absolute minimum torque value for this procedure.
