I need to time the pump because when the cold start device is engaged (when cold!) Lots of white/black smoke. When its warm it has tell tale signs of slightly too advanced pump timing

Turns out my timing was too retarded, but the shake remains and I now have blow-by so I'd say I have at least one Broken piston ring, need to find a dummy injector to test compression.
But the engine seems to have very little smoke and great power so maybe a set of rings and a gasket should see it back but we'll see
