OK, I know that the 15w 40 was recommended as an oil for fairly cool temps up into the extremely warm but oils have changed since then right? Now you can get 5w 40 or even 0w 40 in a “synthetic”, the 0w 40 I have researched are appear to be good for the TDI but not necessarily and Ford Super Duty or School Bus ect… For me I typically look at the oil specification found on the bottle, but what spec should a guy actually follow? Do any of you take into consideration the VW 505.00, 505.01, 507.00? If buying a Syn it is possible to get a deal with the filter and if it is actually more appropriate why not use a Mobil or Castrol that has a S and C API spec as long as it also meets the VW spec? A Syn oil change is not ever going to be inexpensive since it takes more than 5 quarts, I just want to get the best bang for my buck but don’t want to sacrifice oil performance in the process.
