945 D24tic

Hi, recently found this forum by a coincidence at youtube. found som really good tips and ideas here so i thought why not share my projekt

So the car is a volvo 945 from 91. original d24 turbo intercooler with m46 gearbox.

Bought it for 4000 swedish kronor about 40 swedish miles from me. A friend drow me down there in his 93- 945 d24.

What he told me about the car was that you had to tow it to gett it started and dident run well, that it was in pretty bad shape buy that it ran and he thought it would survive the 40 mil home.
Well there the car was like he told me. complete butt pretty ugly. we started it and i gave him the money and we were of. we stopped and refueld and checked the oil which was okey.
We started driving and came about 15 mil when the car started to die in and in an upphill it started to die to die completely when it started to go downwards. the engine was stuck and boil extremely.
The engine was totaly dry of oil... and water because of the boil.
We towed if to a unmanned gas station were we filled it with water that we gathered from the ground since we had none and it hade rained earlier.
Thats when we saw it was no oil and we hade to find and manned gasstation so we continued to tow and found another station that sold oil. we filled her up and towed her to a start. ran on like two cylinders but whe tried do drive it again.
We drove one exit on the highway and took of the check the oil. it hade drained like 1liter on that short way so it was no other then to tow the 25mil way home.

The trip took a total of 11,5 hours wich should have taken maby 7 hours

When it was home the day after.

Two new engines, the one to the right in the picture is from a vw truck and the left one is from a 740 non turbo. the vw never wanted to start and had no hole for vaccum pump so the 740 engine is going in the car.

The 740 engine painted and with the turbo stuff that came with the car.

Have no pics of how i looks today but now i have a new headligt so it looks pretty alright and will do untill the summer.

Also im a fan of wood details in the interior so i made my own with this fake wood. im pretty satisfied with the resaults.

Hello and welcome to the forum... Did you run across D24t.com being mentioned in one of my videos?

Looks like a pretty nice car, a factory IC setup is always nice, along with that factory manifold. Too bad the previous owners ran it into the ground so badly to ruin the engine and head. Any plans to turn it up a little? More fuel/boost etc...? Lots of hot rodded diesels over in your neck of the woods it seams, at least from what I have seen on here and on youtube.

If you go to upgrade the intercooler, you should think about using the manifold off the LT truck engine... The NA manifold has some nice longer runners and adds some low end torque and response. Just a thought.

Dont remember if it was your movie but someone mentioned the forum in the comments.

The plan is to have a good driveable car but more power is always fun.

I have turned upp the pump a little and it smokes pretty good and the boost is original 0.6bar.

But i have a mysterie maby you can solve. when i started with the new engine i hade a turbo pump but i hade the NA injectors (im not sure but i think NA stands for without turbo?) but i was happy with the power it had.
Then i changed to turbo injectors and i felt like a lost alot of power?
Then i changed to a 93- turbo pump and injectors in better shape and the car now runs smoother and smookes alittle bit more but still a loss of power?

The difference between NA and turbo is the opening pressure so is it possible that you gett more power with lower opening pressure?

About the NA manifold i have one laying around wich i will probobly mount soon.

And since it an original n/a i alredy have the NA cam that i heard should have some effect.

Have some plans on mounting a big alu ic later on.

About that we have many hotrodded diesel here in sweden isent relly true. maby you se some at some at car meetings but iv never sen another d24 in the trafik :(
