hi all i can get a purchase a gates campbelt for my 940 tdi for £22.00 or do i buy the genuine volvo campbell for £43.00 which one would you guys purchase ?

I've not been here long, but I've always considered Gates to be a reputable brand - so I'd happily buy the Gates one. I don't have any knowledge specific to the D24 engines though...

I would not hesitate with the Gates, or a Conti or Dayco or Roulunds belt would be fine as well. All are OE level suppliers.

However, much more important than which brand of belt you choose is how you install it, or who you hire to install it. A large number of unique special tools are needed, along with specific procedures that must be followed perfectly. Any mistake or corner-cutting and you will have problems ranging from poor starting/running to total destruction of the engine.

Do you have all the tools and the greenbooks for the technique? If not, how do you plan to get them? If you plan to have someone else do it, do they have the required equipment and knowledge?

Those are the critical areas you need to be concerned with at this point. I recommend you don't jump into the belt replacement until you are certain it can be done right.

hi all
thanks for your valued comments the mechanic i use has done this job for me 3 times now so i have booked him again . i went for the genuine volvo belt again but will use a gates injection pump belt i have also got the tensioner and idler these are both INA brand so exactly same as genuine parts water pump was changed at 165000 miles so will leave that this time .

update . had cambelt and associated parts changed today plus i got rear axle diff oil changed so hope it goes ok
