tempreture gauge

hi all my temperature gauge is playing up .
it moves to about 11 o clock as soon as i start up
i disconnected the suppy to the engine today its to the left of no 1 injector
but no change it still goes on and moves to the same place so i take it the temperature sender from the block is not to blame .
if its the clock my fuel gauge plays up to going to full always when not full
i have renewed my circuit board with a new one a few years ago so can't be that .
any help much appreciated

Sounds like you have confirmed that the problem is not with the sensor, so I'd suspect a wiring fault or a cluster issue.

Does the gauge just stay at 11:00 all the time, from the time you start it to the time it's fully warmed up? Or does it move as the engine warms up, but indicate incorrectly?

What year is your car? 740 and 940 instrument clusters from 1991-1993 frequently have problems, and 1994-on can still be troublesome too.

The gauge on my 940 was 'whack to read' for ages. I had checked out the wiring and the flexi-circuit on the back of the cluster to no avail.

Eventually I got so fed up with it that I delved further: There is a small pcb inside the gauge itself, behind the metal cover. There was a dry solder joint on this. Re-soldered all the joints on that board and it was fine after that...

temp gauge

Hi
This is a really easy fix. Remove instrument panel . Split instrument panel and then remove temp Gauge . resolder the drive chip on the pcb , for some reason they go dry jointed , you will see crystaline solder which isnt good . Reassemble and hopefullly it will work correctly . Mines been fine ever since the resolder
Cheers

hi are the temp and fuel gauge related on ciricit board as mine play up at the same time so I'm guessing there is a link between them
