Looking for the 'DIESEL' Valve Cover
When I owned a 1982 245 with the D24 in it, the valve cover had the word 'DIESEL' stamped into it, and it was shaped nicely. Now I have (2) 1983 760 D24T's, and they have these odd-shaped covers with a little 'step' in them, and no stamped lettering (I think they are sort of ugly). What years and models did this style come on? I have checked eBay time and time again, but came up empty. I think it would make a nice finishing touch to my engine (when I finally finsh it that is lol).

The D24 covers have the "DIESEL" stamping and D24T covers do not. You want the D24T cover since it's compatible with the oil separator puck that the TD motors need, the D24 motors just used a hose with no means for controlling crankcase gas flow. Also easier to use since the turbo cover has the oil fill in front, rather than next to the firewall...
Nevertheless folks have used the D24 cover on TD engines, appearance-wise some seem to prefer it, but it has functional drawbacks. |
Alright - thanks for the head up as far as functionality. I will probably slack off on pursuing one then. I can't say that if I came across one I wouldn't put it on my engine though!
I suppose I could fit the puck to the D24 cover and have the best of both worlds though.... Spenser |
the baffling in the D24 pan isn't as good, but in the TIC pan, its actually better.

I also prefer the d24 cover over the d24t cover. I run one on my car in my sig. I welded a -10 fitting in place of the factory vent tube. I painted the cover black then sanded the top of the ridges and clearcoated it. It looks good.
I sent you a pm. |
That is a nice looking valve cover!

I ended up using the VHT brand 'Grabber Green' from Autozone. It's a little brighter than the stock color, but I like it. Caterpillar Yellow was a close second, but I see a lot of diesels that color - so I stuck with green.
