I found a $200 aftermarket aluminum radiator for 240 diesel cars. (I think)

240 diesel radiators measure:
17.5" x 27.75" x 2.5" in/out 1.25"

These griffins measure: Generic # 1-26241 (Classic Cool Universal Fit)
15.5" x 27.5" x 3" in/out 1.5" or 1.75" or -16AN

The price range is $175-$250 (Summit Racing, Jegs etc.....)

Unless I am missing something I think these will work great.
Other than being slightly shorter they should fit very nicely.

I think using a -16 might be cool. -16 is 1" so maybe there is a -16 to -20 hose 90 degree adapter that would work perfect for the upper hose.

Are you wanting to do this as an upgrade, to improve high temperature performance driving?

Who quoted you $400 to recore your radiator? What materials?

I simply need to replace my radiator and do not want to put another 30 year old used one in to have to replace it again in a few years.

I contacted a few different radiator shops here locally in the Seattle/Tacoma area and they were all around $400 to have my brass/copper radiator recored with a new core and original tanks.

This is not a upgrade but simply an alternative replacement since you can not buy a new radiator for the 240's. Many radiators in all of the 240 diesel volvos are at or will be at the life's end in the very near future. Nothing holds up forever.

I think you could get the one with 1.5" in/out to work. You would need to use a tee fitting in the lower radiator hose to connect the coolant reservoir.

I couldn't tell, but are the end tanks aluminum too?

Have you thought about the radiator hoses? Do you think it with stretch a half inch on the inlet? Is so I say go for it!! If not you could get someone to weld a step down adapter on the inlet from a 3" to the 2.5"

The 3" measurement is the depth of the actual radiator. Our hoses are 1.25" and the griffin is either 1.5", 1.75" or -AN16.

Yes the radiators are full aluminum.

I will be ordering a radiator soon. I will keep everybody posted on which one and how the install goes. Thanks.
