she hates the cold

Hey guys. Im looking for a block heater that I can use on my car. This car is many firsts for me. I never had a turbo, or a diesel, or a volvo lol. As far as ive been told these motors didnt come factory with a block heater. Correct me if im wrong. The setup im going for will be powered by a solar panel. I dont know what to look for in a block heater though.

Thanks all
Alex

Not sure if they came stock with them or not, but all the D24's I have bought came with them. I don't think solar is the way to go here though. Just not enough power for something like this. Maybe if you had a stationary setup, but I am assuming you are planning on mounting it to the car?

Pretty sure any one that fits a VW freeze plug will work.

I just found one.
#1189855-8 for diesels 1980 and up. (Install in 4th hole from front, R hand side.)

What`s that `*Note` actually saying?

Wow! In an original Volvo box and everything. Looks like Volvo was buying them from the same supplier that is common in the aftermarket.

Cool find with the Volvo documentation. You might want to give it a new O-ring if you decide to install it -- who knows how long that has been sitting on a shelf in that package, probably a good many years.

every brick part found has a long history come with it. especially the diesels.

Although it isn`t a strict `must-have item`... and it`s easy to find&use similar block heaters... I agree w you, it`s an interesting good find.

I believe it helps significantly to avoid premature (&unnecessary) engine wear when used on a regular basis (Winters), especially if you live in a cold climate. (gosh, sweden, norway,N usa, canada etc)
I assume having your car in garage does the trick too...but still: It`s always a feeling to plug in your old D/TD brick (u might sleep better). :)

I`ve been quite lucky recently finding very rare bricksh!ts. Okay, hours ((nights?)) spent on internet helps `some`, LOL.
I found out too, we can still buy the ones that look almost identical to this `Volvo` product.
Like this one here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/1109905...lpid=82&chn=ps

Mine came as a whole package, oem box, including the write-ups about installation. The o-ring btw is holding up nicely, looking healthy. I can`t be sure how many yrs it sat but the owner has had many d24ts before but retired already. I can`t guess what might have been the last (80`s) years for ordering D brick accessories in the USA. Some diesels did come with the heater in the USA but none we had in Europe have had it installed.

I`ve seen this one listed for over a year (or two) but never really bothered contacting him. I recently saw it again, so I offered him superfast paypaling +shipping paid in advance. I received it 2days later so now it`s mine, thanks to an Archaeological Discovery from his garage. I spoke with him a lot about dieseling, tricks, fixes; shared great diesel volvo xc trip stories, also, waiting for more gear to resurface.
