head

so i currently have a d24t. i'll probably drop this in the car before doing any head work, just to get the car moving again. i found a d24 less than a mile from my house, so i was considering picking that up in order to pull the head and work it & swap it over in order to reduce down time.

does anyone know off the top of their head what the differences are between the heads of the d24 vs. d24t?

If its an earlier D24 head it may have 11mm head bolts so the holes will be smaller you'll want to check for that. Otherwise, the D24 head doesn't have the coolant outlet on the rear of the head that runs to the oil cooler found on the turbo engine. Thats about it that I can think of. I have heard that the aluminum used on the factory turbo heads is better quality, but I have no concrete evidence of that, and it may just be an old wive's tale.

so just see if a 11mm wrench will fit on the head bolts & if so, say no? what size are the larger later head bolts?

I belive it's 12mm bolts on the rest of the engines ;)

The 11mm heads I believe use Allen heads on the bolts and the 12mm are the triple square. The 11mm heads also use larger precups as I understand. If it is a 11mm head and you don't want to use it, I would be interested in buying it from you.
Also The D24T heads have sodium exhaust valves I believe. I think on the D24 heads there is a freeze plug on the rear where the D24T have the coolant line for the oil cooler.
