Volvo 242 Diesel -79

Hello! This is my Volvo superturbo-project...

Car: Volvo 242 -79
Motor: D24 ohc
Transmission: M46
Suspension: -50mm lesjöfors springs
Wheels: 16" Hydra, 225 tires
Other: Garrett GT-series turbocharger, homemade exhaust manifold, big intercooler 330x780+76mm, 12mm liquidhead, Sasch Race-clutch, 1031 rearaxle with lock...
Performance: 1/4-mile-> 60ft 2,8sec/15,9sek/146kmh(90,72mph) without lock in summer 2009.

I hope that summer 2010 it going faster with lock rearaxle and new better dieselpump :) Maybe 14,XXsec/over 150kmh(93,2mph) i hope.

You used a complete original engine who was without turbo from original? I like the car and engine very much. Scania turbo is perfect. Is it from a v8 or straight six?

Yes the engine is orginal d24. Its same than d24t but there is no oilsquirts on the block and couple other things.

I dont now is it v8 or straightsix turbo. There on the turbo only read scania but it is modifed to work in mercedes 5 cylinder 300 diesel. I bought it that mercedes man because his project is on the ice :) Last summer i drive 1,5bar(21psi) boost but next summer when i get my new better dieselpump i try to drive 2,0bar(29psi) boost or maybe more. Now i have maybe 200 horsepower, summer 2010 i hope 100hp/liter or more :cool:

Yes. Old pump not work like it should. I get my new pump maybe next week. It should give more fuel(more boost) and maybe ~1000rpm more. Old pump was homemade, new pump is made by professional.

Looks nice, what are the specs on the turbo... It looks huge. Your not worried about pulling the threads out of the block running all that boost? The NA D24 block is softer than the turbo block..

I dont know spects because my buddy make it. All what i know it is garrett gt maybe 32 or 37. It should do 300hp or more in mercedes, i think it gives same in d24 too if everything else is ok. But if i get +240hp its ok to me.

Im not worried at all because d24-block is same than d24t-block but there is no oilsquirts. Everything else is same and components match together. D24 block is not softer than d24t ;)

Interesting... What model year is the block? The ones from the 80s had a lower nickle content and were softer than the turbo block.

I would believe that thing could support 300hp, the turbo is huge!
