New radiators on eBay

I want to purchase a new Nissans radiator from this eBay post.

It's for my 1985 745 D24T, manual 4 speed with overdrive. This looks like it's for the automatic since it has the fittings for the tranny oil cooler, but I think it will work. Price including shipping will be around $75.00.

Any thoughts on the quality of this radiator?

Any thoughts on whether or not it will fit my 745?

IIRC the deep ones are 23 1/4" tall, so they hang down in the scoop airdam.

This is the radiator I'm using, the quality is excellent- it cools MUCH better than the all brass radiators as the flat tubes have more surface area.

Mine was keeping engine temps low until my oil cooler blew, now it's running hot again. I'm going to try soaking it with degreaser, with the same methods used to clean Volvo intercoolers.

You're in a hotter environment than I am so that's good to hear! I'll make the purchase. I can't beat the price either.

1/4 box of Cascade dish machine detergent, run to operating temp, and drain.
Enjoy your oil free cooling system.

Radiator installed and tested

I installed the Nissens radiator and it works VERY well. The fit was perfect and I'm no longer concerned about the old brittle plastic on the original. If anyone needs to replace their radiator I recommend this one. And, you cannot beat the price.

I also found my thermostat had broken so it was good I did this when I did.

Good to know! Nice catch on the T-stat as well. I think crappy/malfunctioning t-stats are frequent culprits in the death of these motors... the design of the cooling system leaves them with a lot of work to do and if they're not working quite right, things can get out of control quickly. I've had new thermostats be bad right out of the box, too. Wahler is the only brand to use there -- same as OEM. Expensive compared with a Chinese Meyle, but the extra $15 is cheap compared to the consequences of a thermostat malfunction...

Did that new rad have the number 65509A on it anywhere?

I had a DOA stat from the dealer too.

Radiator part #

Yes, the small sticker on the top of the radiator has reference number 65509A and product 187938.

About my thermostat, it was a new one that had broken. One of the pressed/stamped ends of the bracket had pulled out. I will get a Wahler this week and replace it.

I just bought 2 of these radiators based on the positive feedback here. I need one right now, but at this price I figured I'd buy a backup for the future. Thanks for passing this along J.D.!
