Coolant temperature gauge in cluster/dash.

I know, first I should check wiring (8pin connector) and also look at wiring diagrams etc...

The repair:

The corroded and stuck fan at the very front has been disconnected then removed. New fan is not yet bought/found.

The problem:
Coolant temperature gauge in the dash doesn't seem to work now.

The fan has been thrown out, I cant reinstall to re-check the gauge now. Ideas?
Thank you.

Is the needle staying in the resting (off) position?

Mine sometimes sticks in the resting position. A good smack on the dashboard will unstick it for that session. The fix for that is to open up the instrument panel and carefully add a small drop (likely from a syringe) of Triflow or similar to the pin the needle gauge pointer mounts to. Try not to drip any lube anywhere else in the clean matte black inner panel!

Other easy troubleshooting is to substitute to the other (rear) temperature sensor temporarily (use a small gauge jumper wire) and see if the gauge responds normally. The two temp sensors are identical.

Otherwise the instrument panel wire traces are subject to cold solder joints. Close examination with a magnifying glass and strong light source should help identify any in the area of the temp. gauge.

that fan has nothing to do with the temp gauge. I removed the one in my white car and never had any issues. it still spun freely if you want to install a new one but its really only for A/c for the condenser.
