Dennis's 740 2.4 Td '86 (from Denmark)

Hi There.

Here are a few pictures of my D24T equipped 740. It's imported from germany in 2007. I am the third owner. The only reason why i bought this car, was because of the D24T engine. In spite the owner/road-tax rules in denmark are really strange, a 740 with D24 cost USD 1666 a year, but if it was with a gasoline engine, then it only costs USD 733 a year.

Nice car! Looks like it's in very good coundtition! I am from sweden and all old volvos whit D24 engine cost much more than the gasoline cars!

Hi! The 740 is in very good condition. It is about 98% rust-free :)

Is it true that the 200/700/900 with D24 and D24T's is getting popular in sweden? Before i bought this in Denmark, I was looking for one in sweden. They were actually hard to find, and when there finally was one for sale, it was sold pretty quick.

There has been made some changes to the Volvo in the latest year. Ill post some pictures of some of them.

The present engine in the Volvo is a D24+T. Which I put in the enginebay, after the former engine "blew-up" on the freeway. Cam-snap and piston damage..

The "new" D24. (400.000km and from a N/A Volvo 240)

When the descision was made, to run D24+T, i thought it would be a good idea to fit an external oilcooler with thermostat. I bought this "VW Transporter T4 Camper-kit" via eBay. It fits quite okay!

Who throws a "new" engine in the hole, without fitting a new exhaust? :D:cool: I found this 3" "JT" system in Sweden. It normally fits a gasser turbo. I modified the downpipe, and voila. It has a very deep exhaust note..

I put a set of additional gauges under the dash. Boost-gauge (ofcourse! :p) And with a heat-sensitive-self-destructive VW diesel under the hood, a temperature gauge who shows the actual temp, would be great.

Nice work Dennis.

Does the new oil cooler have a thermostat control?

Do you experience better performance with the new exhaust? Well that might be hard to compare because of new vs. old engine.

volvo-dennis 07-26-2016 12:34 AM

The oil cooler is thermostat controlled. Its a 75 degress celsius type (167 fahrenheit)

The exhaust system do not seem to improve the performance. But it feels like the turbo spools a little bit earlier. But it is probably related to that you can hear the turbo some more out the back, and its all in my mind :p

I can try to make a gopro video with the sound from the JT exhaust, if anyone is interested.

I think I'll look into adding that type oil cooler to my car. The air temperatures here in Phoenix Arizona get pretty hot. It was 117 F. today and thatis not unusual in the summer.

volvo-dennis 07-28-2016 12:36 PM

I would recommend this type of oil cooler. It has a great cooling performance (I think). And the original oil/water type, also has a tendency to get "stupid", and starts mixing the engine oil and the coolant :o

I forgot to post some of the latest photos I have of the 740 GLE.

Here comes a few...
