Nice car! Looks like it's in very good coundtition! I am from sweden and all old volvos whit D24 engine cost much more than the gasoline cars!

Hi! The 740 is in very good condition. It is about 98% rust-free :)
Is it true that the 200/700/900 with D24 and D24T's is getting popular in sweden? Before i bought this in Denmark, I was looking for one in sweden. They were actually hard to find, and when there finally was one for sale, it was sold pretty quick. |
There has been made some changes to the Volvo in the latest year. Ill post some pictures of some of them.
The present engine in the Volvo is a D24+T. Which I put in the enginebay, after the former engine "blew-up" on the freeway. Cam-snap and piston damage.. The "new" D24. (400.000km and from a N/A Volvo 240) http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psmqko4uze.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pssltxnndb.jpg When the descision was made, to run D24+T, i thought it would be a good idea to fit an external oilcooler with thermostat. I bought this "VW Transporter T4 Camper-kit" via eBay. It fits quite okay! http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...ps02ynsr0h.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psri4h74ct.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pshccmqmk7.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psah7oor5r.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pspxwoddio.jpg Who throws a "new" engine in the hole, without fitting a new exhaust? :D:cool: I found this 3" "JT" system in Sweden. It normally fits a gasser turbo. I modified the downpipe, and voila. It has a very deep exhaust note.. http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pscxla3swb.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pst6kqjq0t.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psrgvqjiao.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psyxw6devz.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pscjkkmcaw.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pssldmv7j8.jpg I put a set of additional gauges under the dash. Boost-gauge (ofcourse! :p) And with a heat-sensitive-self-destructive VW diesel under the hood, a temperature gauge who shows the actual temp, would be great. http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psfhvqmhmi.jpg |
Nice work Dennis.

Does the new oil cooler have a thermostat control?
Do you experience better performance with the new exhaust? Well that might be hard to compare because of new vs. old engine. |
The oil cooler is thermostat controlled. Its a 75 degress celsius type (167 fahrenheit)
http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psplhdaecl.jpg The exhaust system do not seem to improve the performance. But it feels like the turbo spools a little bit earlier. But it is probably related to that you can hear the turbo some more out the back, and its all in my mind :p I can try to make a gopro video with the sound from the JT exhaust, if anyone is interested. |
I think I'll look into adding that type oil cooler to my car. The air temperatures here in Phoenix Arizona get pretty hot. It was 117 F. today and thatis not unusual in the summer.
|
I would recommend this type of oil cooler. It has a great cooling performance (I think). And the original oil/water type, also has a tendency to get "stupid", and starts mixing the engine oil and the coolant :o

I forgot to post some of the latest photos I have of the 740 GLE.
Here comes a few... http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psbfpmer1c.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psh9xfixc8.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psz8xgimrw.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psvcwxzzkw.jpg /Dennis |
A little update.
New wheels, and Intercooled :D http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...sda2kmjm0.jpeg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...svenudlx5.jpeg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...sbtzg7nlh.jpeg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...pshwitrlsr.jpg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...sjq8d33pl.jpeg http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/...psuweatzvm.jpg /Dennis |
Nice job!
As far as I can see the road tax is the same here in the Netherlands.. 123 euro's a month, around 1700 dollars a year.. just for owning a Car. No wonder that most people in the Netherlands and Denmark drive unsafe small wobbly French cars. Did you notice a big difference in performance with the intercooler? I'm going to intercool her also :) Btw, don't know if you're planning to clean the paint job in your engine bay but I found out its easy as hell, Heavy duty degreaser, spray it everywhere you can get it.. let it soak for a few minutes and then pressure wash it, afterwards spray everything in WD40 and its shiny as hell and the aluminium looks like new :) |
Thank you, and sorry for the late reply.
I think I can feel a small performance-improvement. So I can recommend you'd Intercool your Volvo :D The Volvo greenbook also says, that standard boostpressure is 0,6bar without Intercooler, and 0,9bar with. I have not adjusted the pressure on mine, but I have thought about it ;) Is your car in the gallery on this page? /Dennis |
I've also bought a intercooler,
