Crank Seal
 

I have oil coming from behind the crank pulley, but can't find a listing for a crank seal. The diagram shows the damper, crank pulley, and then a "companion flange". I just did the timing belt and cam seals, and wonder if I may have upset something behind the crank. Anybody dealt with this before?

Is there oil slung all over the place, as thrown from the rear edges of the cogged crank gear and damper pulley? Oil slung out from the pulleys indicate a leaky front crankshaft main seal. If not, suspect a leaking oil pump gasket, or (less likely) a leaking oil pump (possible cracked or damaged housing).

It's the oil pump gasket, I can see it bubbling out behind idler :( It also collects down in pulleys and sprays all over, I think I will do crank seal while I have the pump out. The odd thing is the bolt holding in the old idler was a long 6mm bolt. The threads in the back of the idler/head are 8-10mm. So someone either lost the bolt or messed something up, and threaded a longer one in. Not sure what to make of that.
Hard part now is finding an oil pan gasket for less than $50 shipped that can come in a reasonable amount of time.

The 6mm bolt is correct for the idler, it's long. It goes through the idler, through the oil pump housing and threads into the block. The larger threads on the idler itself are for using the puller to remove it.

The crank seal is R&Red from the front.

Make sure to get the crank bolt torqued down with locktight!

Is the idler bolt removed right now? Sounds like maybe you just need to put it back in, if it was removed and not put back in, that could be what started the leak.

Yep, Right now it is held in with what I thought would be the correct bolt, but if it is the 6mm I'm sure that's why it's leaking. This is good news, I will try with the correct bolt and see what happens. It seems to be leaking only from the flange around where that bolt would go. It looked so spindly I couldn't believe it would be the correct bolt. Thank you anders!

Got the correct bolt back in and no leaks! It looks like a very small bit of wetness where it was leaking, could be oil squeezing out of gasket. I should probably plan on doing it when the weather gets better.
