Thought I'll show you my 244.

The car was bought in California (I even have the maintenance history up to 40k miles!) by a finn in 1982, he drove it a few years and sent it back to Finland. It was first registered in Estonia in 2002 and I got the car in the beginning of 2011. Unfortunately they use quite a lot salt on our roads in the winter so the cars tend to rust pretty easily as you can see, especially the older ones.

The car started out with a D24 engine and M46 gearbox. In the summer of 2012 I decided to throw a turbo and a IC in it and wow, what a difference it made! :D

Changed the interior for a black leather one, basically bought a spares car just for the dashboard as mine was cracked badly and the door panels were rotten. Swapped the whole interior, don't have any pictures unfortunately.

Re-did the wiring for the headlights as there was a noticeable voltage drop, added relays and took the supply from the battery, made a big difference!

Added an amplifier to the back and tried to get the speakers fixed to the rear, someone had previously cut the holes to big for the 6x9 speakers somehow. Anyway, now I've got Hertz DCX690 speakers in the back and it sound great!

Fixed the front brakes - dust seals were broken, brake hoses were old and the discs were warped.

This is how I get the stuck brake hose connections loose again. Apply some heat until the hose pops and then it's easy to loosen the connections. Of course you need new hoses, but these were changed anyways :)

This is how it looks now. The front end needs some tidying up still.

I've had two Volvos before. One of them was a 1988 760 B280F, it was really great to drive! The mileage was really bad because of the V6 so I sold it, but still I regret it a little bit.

Some pictures of the project!

The other one was a 740, B230F. Had it for a half a year as I was backpacking through Australia with my friends. Had a lot of fun with it :)

I love how that first one, the`sold` 6cyl white Volvo looks. I`d love to have one like that with the d24t.
The blue one is a very nice ride indeed. Great job fixing it!

Funny that my eyes keep jumping on 3 things: the right side lower panel that is not painted black :) , the old-skool mirrors (look nice) and I`m missing the Diesel/or 240 sign on the rear...
The d24 car we had in Europe had a VOLVO on left of trunk and a 240GLED6 sign on the right side of trunk. `THAT` would look extremely unfamiliar in the USA though. :)) I also like those EU spec orange signals on EU Volvos. And wipers on the headlights.

:) I`ll see your engine running videos now. :) Thanks for posting!

Thanks!

Actually, I was planning on swapping the V6 in the 760 for a D24T :) Even bought a donor car. But as it came out the engine on the donor needed far more work as I expected so I didn't go through with that.

The lower panel annoys me as well. I re-sprayed the front wings and somehow didn't get to doing the lower part, so it's on the to do list at the moment.

Because of the winter and salt I decided to put the car to rest until everything clears out. Of course I'm going to take it for a spin when they open the ice track on the lake :D Nothing beats RWD and snow!
Meanwhile I'm planning on doing some bodywork, mainly cosmetics because of the poor spray quality from the previous spray-guy (roof and boot lid) and the rear wings as I saw some little spots of rust coming through already. Fortunately nothing major. Going to do some better rust-proofing afterwards as well.

Nice car and a great story! Doubt the dealer who originally sold it in CA would have ever guessed that it would end up back in Estonia only a few hundred miles from where it was originally made....

I had an '88 760 GLE V6 for a while as well -- mine was a sedan. I liked it, but the mileage was terrible, about 15 MPG in city driving. I sold it, but miss it sometimes -- the B280F V6 is an under-rated engine, ran nicely and was pretty trouble-free! Though replacing the water pump was more work than it should have been, too many hoses...

It looks good if you paint it black in the middle of the rear lights and the plate behind the numbers (or use black tape) :)

the left list missing a clip?

That's a really nice 240 :)

I'd love to do a tic'd 240 some day, but things are a little trickier for us in the UK, as the steering column gets in the way of the turbo, so a special manifold would have to be made up :(

As for the vids, you've gotta love a tic sucking through an open filter!! ;)

Took it out to the ice track the previous weekend. Oh the fun that I had :D Went to the gas station afterwards to fill the tank up again and after driving away the engine just cut out. I was already worried that I got some crap in the tank as i was running really low before.

Checked the fuel line, seemed OK. Then checked the fuses and there it was, a fuse had blown, I guess it was number 13. Replaced it and ran about 100m and again. Took a piece of wire from the trunk and hot wired the pump and voila, it runs! Haven't had the time to look into it yet, but as far as I can say, the trouble isn't the pump solenoid, it's definitely something else under the same fuse. Seemed to me that the alternator was related to that.

Beautiful car! This is very inspiring, I'm thinking about restoring my 760 to look like new also.

Sweet spot too, for perspective, the oldest building in use in California is said to be from 1776.
