Newbie: Cylinder fuel supply line replacement

Hello all,

I'm the unexpected owner of an 84 Volvo wagon and although an OK mechanic, I'm unfamiliar with diesel repairs.

Here's my issue: My Volvo is running rough and I took it to a local diesel mechanic who informed me that someone had spliced a section of the #1 cylinder fuel supply line with a section of foreign tubing. (I'm assuming that the #1 cylinder is the cylinder closest to the radiator)

He said that I should replace both the tubing and the injector.

My question is, is there an aftermarket generic tubing product that I can use that has the correct wall thickness and if so, what is the correct length for the #1 fuel supply line? It's my understanding that all the lines need to be the same length.

Or, is there a resource where I can buy an aftermarket supply line?

Welcome.

The injector lines are made of very thick wall tubing that has to hold up to high pressure, vibration, and abrupt injection pulses. IOW, specialized tubing that is not commonly available. The end "flares" are also uncommon.

Your best bet is to locate a spare if possible, try the Classifieds>Items Wanted section http://d24t.com/forumdisplay.php?f=11 here to start with.

They will break if handled roughly (bending or forcing while installing, or timing the IP by twisting it) or if the clamps are not present (the clamps minimize the vibration that causes them to crack), so verify the clamps are installed on the remaining good injection lines and that the lines are not stressed.

All the lines need to be the same length, to promote consistent timing among them; that is why some of them look like they have extra bends.

I don't know how practical it will be to find this item here on the forum; there's a guy here on this site who has been looking for the same thing since February of 2010.

I would prefer the original part of course but I haven't been able to locate anything. Is there anyone on the site here who happens to know the wall thickness of the tubing if worse comes to worse and I have to make my own?

Also: Is the D24 known under different names? Mmaybe I could locate this part using a different search.

If I do find anything, I will make sure to post.

Sorry to hijack.

I've got a fuel line leaking at the joint to no.4 injector :(

I'd be interested in finding a replacement set of lines, also maybe a set of injectors.

Trouble is, suppliers of d24 parts are few and far between in the UK, so maybe they are a little more plentiful in the US??

I found a site that sells replacement lines for the MB diesels....

Any chance they would work? I'm guessing if not correct length all 6 would need to be replaced at the same time? (still new to the D24 scene :) )
