I feel constrained to apologize for my compatriot's antics. Fortunately they are not all so scatterbrained :-).
I rather think that Shakespeare would have been reluctant to visit his lover in such a contraption and may have added even more colorful words to the English language !

Why do I think Clarkson just wanted to get one over on the French designer? Making fun of the Frogs...a favourite British sport.
