Hi there
I am looking for info on a gasket and possibly block off plate so that I might delete my EGR valve on an 86 740 TD. I have a slight exhaust leak there and if I am going to fix that might as well get rid of everything!

thanks
Steve

Im going to make some block off plates shortly. I have all the material. I just need to get off the computer and do it.

I did just this a few months ago. I bought some 1/4" plate steel from the local home store and cut two identical plates to block off the EGR. One on the exhaust manifold, the other on the intake manifold "inlet". You'll note the small divot on the plate, this is where I plan to drill and tap the EGT probe, it seems like an ideal location. "Jim C." on the Volvo Diesels listserv gave me the idea on where to place the thermocouple.

I agree - good spot.

Just make sure it's a good quality thermalcouple, the one problem with preturbo pickup is that if the thermalcouple breaks (which does happen) it will go through the turbo. This is why a lot of heavy duty diesels put the probe post turbo.

THat is exactly what I am looking for, I have a dead gasket and figured I might as well block it off while Im at it. Was the cutting hard? What did you use?

Did you clean the intake too?
Have you noticed any differences since the egr delete?
