No it is not. The D24 bolt pattern is the same as used on other Audi /VAG engines that have 5, 6 cylinders but the 4 cylinder hole pattern is different.

There are people who have put 5 cyl D20 engines into Vanagons and there is a company that makes adaptors Kennedy Engineering I believe.

If he use a d24 engine will a volvo diesel get wrecked and he doesnt get a starter because the toyota starter has the starter on wrong side:p
And a 1,9 td is the same engine as the d24 just but 2 cylinders less.

I know that the 850 engine has the Audi/VW 5cyl bolt pattern. Anyone ever think about putting a d24 in one of these? There are several standalone trans controllers that would work.

Hello, so the d24 is the same bolt pattern as a 5 cyl audi? Thus I could bolt it to my 90quattro? :). Ad24 with awd :) in my future? What about the starter? I have a neighbor with a couple d24's engines only as the 740 shells were in new england and have been sitting in a field for around 10 years!!!

I think a D24 in an Audi would have the timing belt sticking out through the front bumper. In a 5cyl Audi the motor is already so far forward that there is no room in front of it for the rad, the rad goes next to it... the timing belt cover is right up against the core support. I think adding another cylinder would mean major surgery...

If you are looking for crazy ideas, you could technically probably get a D24T to bolt into a Porsche 924 as well...

My question is if it will bolt up/ starter. Etc. I kmow the extra cyl would make it stick out far, I would weld up a new cross member out of some heavy gauge steel and move the bumper forward. It will probably look funky, but I don't really care that much! A porsche 924/944 would be fun but I wnt awd in NH and I have an extra audi shell already there so.....
