yeah slapped it on Christmas eve, and Wow, now my D24T sounds like a D24 at idle but there is some boost at rev up. Upon removing the old manifold I noticed that the intake gasket was cracked and leaky on Cyl #'s 2 and 5 interesting! that also explains the extra whistle at heavy boost. Now, I have much more power and much better take off.

Sounds like sweet upgrade. Christmas came early for your car!

Were you ever able to get one off one of your extra engines? I would still like to get my hands on one. Even though I already modified my stock manifold, I think the longer intake runners in the NA manifold will help low end off boost torque, and the inlet is bigger already so theres room to grow for a bigger turbo. Mine is fine for now, but 2" inlet is max for the front of the T manifold, there's no more meat left!

I could still fix you up with one. Its just a matter of getting off my ass. It took me how long just to slap that simple manifold on my car? when if I was on the ball I would have had that done when I swapped motors. kinda funner to do the step by step upgrades to feel the improvements as you go.

Its a bad cold start. and how my engine looks and sounds with the N/A intake.

That intake looks bad ass on there, its pretty damn big looking with those intake runners. If you have a chance to get one off an engine for me let me know!

Don't you love how these engines sound like marbles in a trash can when cold! (or for that matter much of the time). I think all my neighbors think my car is about to blow up every time I start it!

I just adore the sounds these engines make aswell. My brother tells me " don't you think its time to turn off the rock tumbler?" he drives a dodge Cummins 5.9 which sounds so bad ass. I loves turbodiesel sixes. big or small.

hahaha wow... and I thought mine was noisy on a cold start! Mine doesn't sound nearly that clacky... but it is pretty low mileage too.

Why don`t you name the video How to not start a old volvo diesel with aluminum head:D?

That's what I was about to say... I don't know how you can do that to an IDI aluminum head diesel. You can hear the poor thing crying out for help. One of my D24Ts is a beautiful one-owner 740 sedan that was maintained well by its owner (oil changes, belts etc on time), but it was started up like that every morning. She would start it with lots of revs and foot on the throttle (I saw her do it), drop it into Drive, and immediately start hauling ass up a big hill near her house every time she went anywhere. Well, guess what? After only 158,000 miles the engine is *completely* worn out. It has zero, and I mean zero, compression. The starter can spin it over without even trying. It sort of started when I bought it last summer, but now that it's cooler out, it won't start at all no matter what I do. The poor thing gave in to the abuse.

You won't like to hear this, but your motor will end up the same way if that is how you routinely treat it. Even a fairly worn D24T will start OK from cold if it has good glow plugs, injectors, and the valves are adjusted properly. If you do those things, you won't need to treat it that way in order to get it going. ;)

Don't sweat it man. I am going to check the valve clearances this week. I've tested my injectors and they are pretty dang close to each other in when they pop. When I get enough moneys I will get new glow plugs as well. This engine probably has 160k by now. I plucked it out of the yard with 140k. I probably need to give it a little more fuel though. In the warmer temps she starts right up fine. but I think I may have a tight valve in her. And to top it off, once this motor looses its life, I will just rebuild it. I've also got another D24T with just a mere 105k on it to run in the meantime. but I am sure I've got years left in this motor that I daily drive. And yes, I warm her up before I roll.

Ah now guys this is interesting I have just bought all the bits to convert my D24T to a D24TIC now my qeustion is do you recommend I use the N/A manifold which seems the consensus here if I am looking for extra ponies or stick with the correct D24T manifold bearing in mind this is for a VW LT truck

I think its just easier to arrange the intercooler hoses with the N/A intake than with the D24T intake. If you have the TIC intake you are ahead of the game.
The D24TIC engine was never imported into this country so bits are very rare compared to other D24 engines and they are rare enough too.
I have a D24T engine in a car that already has an intercooler installed from a gas engine. Its just sitting there in front of the rad.
I dont have the parts to make it a TIC so I probably wont mess with that mod. I have to fix the tranny first !!
