View Full Version : Effects of timing (12mm pump)

I've installed my 12mm pump now, and have timing set to 0.88 at the moment. My old pump was set to 1.05mm (thought I'd set it to 1.00, but obviously not!

I'm going to advance it a bit more, but what should I expect? Should turbo lag reduce or increase with extra advance? How do I know if I've gone too far? It didn't really rattle when warm set at 1.05 with the old pump, but the pump was very worn!

Does 12mm pump affect the "perfect timing" value?

I'm running 163 bar Monarch GTD nozzles and I believe my engine is probably a bit low on compression generally, but all cylinders within 10-15% of each other. Starts really quickly on all 6 even at 0C with only giving glow plugs 15 seconds, so can't be too worn.

The 12mm pump will effectively have more advanced timing then the 10mm pump. I typically run .10mm less timing with the 12mm pump. So around .9-.95 seems to be good.
Advancing the pump runs cleaner, retarded will spool the turbo faster.

Ok thanks. I have tried 0.88, 0.93 and now 1.05 (it moved when I tightened it up). 0.93 felt the best in terms of spool and power.

1.05 is too far I think - bit clattery around 2000rpm, and feels a bit weak under boost.
