Just wondering if anyone here picked up this beautiful wagon on Ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Volvo-240-/262121891176?forcerrptr=true&hash=item3d07aea568:g:v~oAAOSwl9BWNX9o&item=262121891176

I was going to pick it up, but saw it too late. Just curious if this went to another dieseler here.

There was 1990 240 diesel for sale on eBay a few months ago. It was a Europe edition. It was in Plattsburgh, NY. It was a nice looking wagon. It was up for auction twice. The second time the final bid was over $5000.

The wagon on Ebay for buy it now I missed... I didn't have my notifications set up right. It was worth way more and must have sold QUICK. The 1990 diesel that was on Ebay I could have got for 3k but I backed out and he relisted it. I later found out that its most likely not registerable in California because its a grey market vehicle. Also shipping for these cars is a bit of money.

Hopefully it went to someone who could get it registered. I hear California is the last place to attempt to register something in a grey area. Since you have a couple motorcycles you could appreciate the regulations that keep the Sommer diesel motorcycle from being homologated for the US market. They use Indian made Royal Enfield frames and transmissions coupled to a Hatz 1b40 diesel engine. It looks like a stock machine.

I tried and failed to buy it. Canadian dollar is so bad right now and couldn't scrape the cash together to make him a decent offer. I'm really bummed. If it is anyone here...I'm jealous.

Sorry you missed it. There are search sites that will search all of Craigslist for you. Those may be helpful. eBay is as much a curse as a blessing in my opinion. The wagon did however did end with a very reasonable final bid the first time it was listed.

I've yet to find a website that will search all of craigslist effectively. All the ones I've found suck and are usually a day or 3 behind meaning you miss the good deals.

I have 14 CL bookmarks set up from LA to Seattle (West Coast) that I check a couple times a day.

Wow -- that could be my car, except I'm in California.

Same color inside and out; same condition (outstanding).

Any idea what a box-stock D24 w/manual trans is worth, in good condition like that one? It isn't clear to me from the link what the car sold for; I presume less than the $4500 asking price.

Mine was my dads. One owner; 106k.

Thanks; just wondering what the value is.

Opinions on what a Volvo 240 is worth vary widely. Seems age is much less relevant than condition. A one owner 240 with only 106,000 miles? Thats extremely rare! Now granted low miles on a D24 engine may not be a true representation of overall engine health but
there's help here if needed. The trend towards 240 Volvo cars remaining cheap reliable, and disposable transportation seems to be ending with cars like yours ( depending on condition of course) starting to increase in value rapidly. I don't believe any could define a "practical classic " better than a Volvo 240 wagon. $4500 is not unreasonable for a well preserved specimen. That's my opinion.

Not selling DS.

Mine was Dad's car, so has a lot of sentimental value.
