Well it's time to start a new diesel project. I'm hoping to have it done in time for the Swedish car show in February. This car is currently powered or the lack of by a b21 and to make it even slower it has an automatic transmission.
Here it is:

Lovely! Can't wait to see it finished.

Amazing niceness.
(Were there Diesel 2-doors ever produced by Volvo btw?
And how about a Diesel Bertone? I think I`ve read about 6-door brick-limos with the diesel.)

It`s going to be a real interesting beauty! with a refreshed diesel... I love the car already. Emblem can stay, it doesn`t lie. :)

In keeping with this theme, how about a 142 with a D24? What a squeeze that would be.

I have only heard of one two door 240 diesel, I'm not sure if it was built by Volvo or an outside company. I believe it was a bertone with a turbo diesel.

I got the old cylinder head removed (it has a crack in the cam journal that I discovered when adjusting the valves). Installed some ARP head studs. Interestingly enough this d24t block was cast in 1992.. I believe it was imported by the green car company. Anyways here is a picture of the shortblock with geotze head gasket and studs.

Yes, correct. I found an article about it. http://www.volvoadventures.com/780spec1.html
Being factory intercooled, 2-door, stickshift, TD, bertone car...That is a rare car for sure.

Engine is nearly completely assembled, just need to install my modded 240 turbo diesel oil pan..

I did install one of my capped d24 intakes on it. The tapped hole in the back is for the boost gauge/ boost reference for the IP.

I have one of those intake manifolds that you sold me. I like it alot. Worked well with my holeset. I'm going to figure out intercooler plumbing over the winter.

That's awesome! There is quite a few of my capped manifolds around now..
How do you like the HY35? Any mods to the frame rails for fitment?

R.Mojica
11-11-2015, 08:28 AM
No mods to the frame rail, had to put an 1/8 shim under the pass.side engine mount though because the turbo would tap on the frame rail every so often on the way home the first day. I wish boost would start a couple hundred rpm sooner but it moves pretty well 3k and up. I found there are upgradable compressor wheels out there that could decrease spool time. Also tightening up the wastegate a little bit should make boost come on a little bit quicker.

Car is now in the shop. Maybe the engine and transmission will be out soon.

Looks very clean. Is that orange or red?

anders
11-20-2015, 05:00 PM
It's red, for some reason my phone makes it look orange.
I made some progress on it today. I got the engine and transmission pulled out and the engine bay degreased.

anders

Clean engine bay ready for a d24t!

Look at that before & after!!! What was your degreasing method?

anders
11-21-2015, 04:24 PM
Purple power degreaser and a pressure washer.
Life is much better when putting a car together that's not a ball of grease.

Plans have changed.. Car will be getting a different d24 that's 1mm over and it will get a fresh rebuilt head along with studs. The car is now being built for a member here, I will be keeping my 92 d24t for another 242 build.

Engine that will now be going into the 242:
84 d24 block bored 1mm over with KS Pistons.
Cylinder head rebuilt by AHR in Portland. Engine has ARP studs.

That's a nice looking 242. Surprised a few redblock owners no doubt.

And another twist.. I own the car again! The build thread will continue. Things to come will include rear end swap, exhaust, turbo upgrade possibly, intercooler for sure, and suspension work.

Wasn't that car going to get a T5 trans?

v8volvo
07-19-2016, 06:24 PM
Still looks good. What's the rear end going to be? Going for a taller gear?

anders
07-21-2016, 11:18 AM
The car might be getting a T5, not sure yet.
It will be getting a 3.31 or 3.52 gear set, the gears in it now are 4.10, way to low for the diesel.

anders

Well now it's time for a built engine. Going with a D24T block bored 1mm with KS Pistons, chromemoly piston rings, cylinder head has a mild port and polish done to it along with all new valves.

Hopefully this will all be fine before the next Swedish car show this February.

Old engine out of the car, it was pulled to install into a 245.

anders

Old engine installed into the 245.

anders
12-31-2016, 12:28 PM
Engine is now cleaned, honed and painted ford red. I usually paint all my D24t's Detroit diesel green, but I decided red would look nice under the hood of a red car.

anders
12-31-2016, 12:33 PM
All the goodies to be installed onto this motor. Freshly rebuilt cylinder head with mild port work and all new valves, assembly and machine work done by Aluminum Head Rebuilders in Portland, I have had several heads rebuilt by them and they seem to do very nice work. Head will be held down via ARP head studs and sealed with a geotze head gasket. Pistons will be getting Deves piston rings and the rotating assembly will be getting King main bearings and KS rod bearings.

anders

Ah, what a beauty.

Large v-mount intercooler, all piping is on the bottom for a clean looking engine bay.

Car is all washed, it's on 16" VOXX mg3 wheels. Still need to install the 3" exhaust, cooling fan(s), mount the remote mount oil filter, and install the oil cooler.

Looks good without that silly lower rad hose running across the bottom.
