Been thinking about swapping the turbo for a while as my T3 is getting old, and is quite laggy really. Also had a really weird whistle which sounds like air escaping, but it's definitely not boost side.

I keep hearing how good Holset's are, and I've seen some go fairly cheap as they're not used very often here. HX35's seem to go for good money though as they're good for big HP builds.

I'm not looking for a big HP build, probably looking 20-25psi max, but something that spools nicely for a daily driver, but I've got no idea which size would suit my D24Tic.

HX25
HX27
HY35 (9cm exhaust)
HX35 (12cm exhuast).

I've been offered a HX25 new for good money - would this be too small though?

If I remember right all the smaller holsets (anything smaller then the hx or hy 35's) have a t25 flange.

What are you looking to spend? I purchased my super 60 turbonetics brand new for $600.

The hy35 might be worth a try, it has a fairly small exhaust housing and should spool fairly decent, I have one I'm going to try.

Are the holset turbos a bolt on for oil plumbing?

It £150 brand new - but it's gone now. To be fair a HX25 would probably be too small for it then?

Will keep a look out for the HY35. What about the HX30 though? Is that still too small? Want something that will boost well with a bit less lag than my current T3!

Hy35 should be a good turbo for running about 30 psi of boost.

Its doing 15 to 18psi right now with no intercooler so I don't want to go any higher until I get head studs and the intercooler done b4 spring. It pulls pretty well.

Sounds reasonable. At which rmp does it reach 18 psi?

Depends on what gear. 1st gear makes about 10psi as its pretty short. 2nd gear and up it makes full boost by about 3500.

How big of a difference has it made? Worth the effort? I'm running about 18psi on the stocker right now but it's not exactly mind blowing... Although i can spin tyres :D

Wanting to get a hy35/hx35 at some point, any other modifications you had to make to fit it?

I had to modify the oil return. All I had to cut about 3/8s" out of the section where it bolts to the engine. Make the whole exhaust and the plumbing to make the non turbo intake manifold work.

Cool, I'm in the hunt for one but little a skeptical of the ones from Poland that are always listed on eBay second hand
