Extra range fuel tank 740/760 sedan

I have a complete extra range fuel tank setup for a 740 or 760 sedan, the tank is in good shape along with the trunk carpet. This is a rare find, I think in a old ad volvo stated with tank fitted in a diesel sedan you could have a driving range of over 700 miles! I have hoses and fittings needed to install it in a car not originally fitted with it. I would like to see $175 for it, shipping is possible as it's not heavy just bulky.

I was a Volvo tech thru the 80's and never recall the extra fuel tank option as an ad-on at the dealer.

Was this option only available on a special order to your spec car?

I just purchased my 84' 760 Turbo Diesel and when I opened the trunk guess what I saw.... You got it... the extra fuel tank option.

Car also has a factory installed trailer hitch I have never seen before, I'm sure I will find other factory options as I investigate this car.

It is also automatic transmission it's a 4 speed automatic, indicator has 1-2-3-D and it was just rebuilt another plus for me. I will be keeping it automatic for now, in the future I may put the overdrive stick in from the 83'

Does this vehicle sound like a special order car to you?

Im not sure, I think all the turbo diesel 83 and 84 764's got the extra range tank.
I haven't seen much sedans with a hitch mounted to them, mostly wagons.
The 7 series in a turbo diesel with the zf automatic are wonderful cars, the zf really complements the d24t, unlike the short first geared m46.

Every 1983-1984.5 760 TD that I have seen has had the extra range fuel tank. I had always thought they all just came that way, but Tyler you're saying your '84 did not have one until you added it yourself?

Agree on the transmission, the ZF autoboxes is a great setup in the 700 series TD cars, very refined and an ideal match to the D24T power curve, and remarkably efficient as well, almost no penalty in mileage compared to the M46.

I'd bet that when you get the car on the road with a good motor and healthy ZF behind it, you're not gonna want to change anything about it. :cool:
