Removing the diaphragm?

When I take the top off of my Injection pump, how do I get the diaphragm out, I tried gently pulling but I didn't wanna break anything so I just put it back together. Thanks for your help

Mark where you start, and spin it around till the foot is least engaged on the follower pin(Probably have to guess), then pull more.
