This has been a slow parts gathering process. It all started from getting a turbo exhaust manifold from George (v8volvo) over a year ago. Then after a marriage, second kid, job and some other life stuff I got the heart of a turbo transplant, the actual turbo from (anders) a few months ago. I also got one of his fancy D24 modified pans which fits like a glove btw. I then dropped the turbo off at my dads shop so that he could just clean it up for me and well lets just say he went a little further than cleaning it up.

Here are some details.

Turbo got a rebuild from Gopopshop
Turbo got balanced at a local shop
Intake got smoothed and powder coated red
Turbo got a 2.5 inch to 3.0 inch vband exhaust adapter
Full 3 inch exhaust NO muffler
The sensor connection digital EGT gauge
EBAY special $7 30psi boost gauge plugged and tapped to the back of the intake

Looks good! Another 240 turbo diesel, yes...

Wow, beautiful work -- looks fantastic!

How's it feel so far? What are you running for boost?

Next up is an intercooler, you already have the right intake for it... Then you can crank it up even a bit more. :D

You going to make it down to PDX for the IPD swap meet in a few weeks?

So far the boost maxes at 10psi taking that reading from the back of the intake. I have the intercooler already just want to get some miles on it first. The plan is to put ARP studs in the head before the intercooler. The seat of the pants feels like the power has doubled. The most noticeable difference is hills. Before even the slightest of grade uphill would necessitate a down shift, now I can just leave it in 3rd or even 4th and it pulls really nicely. Long story short, I have a BIG shi* eating grin when I drive it now, not to mention it sounds SO good with 3" all the way and no muffler....

I dont think I will be able to make it to the IPD swap meet. :(

Here is a short video my brother took of the first initial startup.

Hey are you running the NA injection pump? I am looking to the conversion... I recently purchased an 84 diesel 240 with the m46 and OD... so slow.

It has a newly rebuilt injection pump so I would like to utilize it... I also have a newly rebuilt set of d24 turbo injectors

Hey are you running the NA injection pump?

Yes it is the stock D24 injection pump. The turbo makes a HUGE difference on the freeway. Way more than I was expecting.

Wonder how much boost the NA pump can keep up with?

10 psi is probably more than enough for what I want... just some drive ability because I can barely maintain 55 mph on the highway.

10 psi is what your going to want to shoot for. My car is not by any means fast but it is what you want in drive ability. I would not want to go any less than 10.

What are your EGT? Probably pretty low since the fuel is running low...

Also which turbo are you using?

EGT cruising at 65mph are 700.
EGT pulling a long hill at 65mph 900's.
Using the stock D24t turbo and waste-gate setup.
My mpg so far has increased. The first tank with the turbo was a mixed tank with and without the turbo and also with me beating on it pretty hard and I have already gained a few mpg's. I will know by this weekend what a full tank and driving normally what kind of mpg increase I will have.

Just as much as the turbo one, but you will not be able to see behind you unless you are fully spooled, and may not idle below 2000 RPM

Is this assuming one "adjusts" the IP? I'm brand new to diesel... I was assuming boosting the NA IP without adjusting it would make no smoke because the ratio would be lean...

OP did you adjust the IP at all and any additional smoke? I'm looking for drivability with little smoke. Not big power

yes and yes.
Thats exactly what VW did on the 1.6 ecodiesel motors.

Great thanks! I've been reading more and more and it seems I will get what I want out of this thing with extra air. Excitin

Did you swap to the 740 oil filter housing?

anders

Yep, he used the d24t oil filter mount, it's the easiest and cheapest route to take when adding a turbo as it relocates the filter out of the way of the turbo and the turbo gets it's oil supply from there.

What do you plan on doing for the turbo oil drain?

Haha, no problem!
So are you still enjoying the car with boost?

It looks extremely amazing. Also, I always loved painted manifolds. That red one looks totally mean. I need one NOW! :)
