I have owned this car for about two years now. I have always planned on swapping the drivetrain into a wagon, but this project keeps getting pushed down on my list. I have no particular need to sell the car, but would be willing to do so for a reasonable price. It runs and drives very, very well.

I bought the car from the 3rd owner. It came with an incredible stack of service records, going back to when the car was new in PA in 1984. It has about 217,000 miles on it. I bought the car with about 214k and I did a lot of maintenance to the engine.
I have a stack of service records. Notable recent ones are a brand new vacuum pump at the Volvo dealer less than 10,000 miles ago, and a brand new turbocharger at the Volvo dealer under 5,000 miles ago. About 100,000 miles ago, the engine was completely rebuilt. I have receipts for this.

The body is quite beat up, but it is structurally sound. The suspension is pretty tired, although I still drive the car upwards of 75mph in rush hour traffic, so it isn't unbearable.

The car starts up every single time. It needs at least a few glowplugs, so it's a little shaky at first. The cold start thermostat is disconnected.

The car does not leak or use ANY oil. None. I replaced the crank and cam seals and valve cover gasket about 2,000 miles ago. I also replaced the timing belt with a genuine Volvo belt and a new Bosch water pump was installed. I used proper tools for this job. Installed a Gates IP belt and set the injection pump timing.

It does not use any coolant, nor does it run hot. It has a non-diesel radiator. I have never encountered any issues as a result of this.

The transmission shifts well. I have never serviced it. I've driven a lot of ZF 4hp22 cars and I can say this one is pretty good- no slipping, flaring, or hesitation. It was rebuilt at some point; I have the receipt.

In short: it's mechanically as solid as ever. It's ridiculously reliable.

Issues:

The interior is absolutely trashed.
No A/C. The condenser is gone. The car was in an accident and it was not replaced, although the body damage was repaired.
The blower motor keeps seizing up. It's on its way out. I disconnected it.
The climate control distribution controls are stuck.
The driver side window regulator is broken.
The power steering pump bracket is cracked, so the pump comes loose and the belt squeals.

The interior and body of this car make it a beater, but it is mechanically outstanding. With a little bit of cosmetic work, it could make a nice daily driver. I daily drive it when the weather isn't harsh right now.

My feeling is that the most ideal use for the car is to swap the drivetrain into a clean body, perhaps a gasser wagon or an ailing diesel.

I would be willing to part with the car for $1,750. If this isn't reasonable, I will keep the car and swap the drivetrain over to a wagon. I am located in Westerville, which is a suburb of Columbus, Ohio.

I don't have any photos of the car yet, but if there is interest, I will take some. This is my blog, and these are articles about the car which contain some photos.

There's a chance I would let this car go for $1000 firm to a good home. I'm probably getting another car soon (I've always wanted a V8 W126 Benz, and a grey market one has fallen into my sight).

I am right smack in the middle of Ohio, in Columbus. I live in the northern suburbs of Columbus.

I am probably going to be driving up to Canada with a car hauler soon though, and if someone were very interested (a.k.a. 100% sure you were buying the car) I could deliver the 740td to a point between here and my destination in Canada.

Shoot me a PM or an e-mail. Sorry for the delayed reply; I haven't been on the forum lately.
